T-Shirt Contest!

Hey Everyone

We are having a contest to design this year's FFA tshirt! Submit designs to room C109 by next Friday! Remember to include our club name and 2006-2007 on it! Please put the designs on white printer paper, not binder or colored paper!

Meeting: 9/22

9/24: Member Bonding  Picnic at Memorial Park from 2-4pm [big playground near Stevens Creek]

For our first activity of the year, we decided to have  a  Member bonding picnic/ potluck. I encourage everyone to come because this is where you will get to meet all the officers and members who you will be seeing for the rest of your activities. We will have games, sports, music, and of course food (yum!). If you are coming to the picnic and can make food (since its also a potluck ), please do so. Drinks plates, and utensils will be provided. So all you need to do is bring the food!


10/1 12pm - 4pm  Italian Family Fiesta- Santana Row

Members will be exploring Italian cuisine and culture through cooking demonstrations, food tasting, and Italian performances. It is in a beautiful location(Santana row of cousre!) We will meet in front of Best Buy, facing Valley Fair. If you need specific directions, or is you have any questions please contact one of the officers. ( you can leave early if you need to, but try to stay for the whole thing if you can). This is a fun, non-volunteering activity!

10/8 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM   EHC LifeBuilders: Soup kitchen Dinner
2665 N. 1st Street, Suite 210  San Jose

Members will be helping cooks prepare dinner for homeless currently being housed in the shelter. This is a great activity where you get to help make yummy food and then help serve it. This is a really fun volunteering activity
 
They have a guide line that says that you can’t wear opened toed shoes, tank tops, short skirts, or shorts
.



10/14
  Pumpkins in the Park
Shift 1: 9:30am - 1:30pm
Shift 2: 12:30pm - 4pm
Discovery Meadow-Guadalupe River Park & Garden, San Jose

Members will be volunteering by mostly helping out at the cider pressing booth( you use a press to make cider!) or helping with the pizza distribution(yum!). You can choose between two shifts. This is a really fun, vlounteering activity.


10/15 Village Harvest
Los Gatos Hills
Time: TBA

You get to pick fruits from trees in orchards and backyards for hungry in the community! This is a really fun outdoor volunteering activity!



10/29  Farmer's Market in Santana Row
12:30 pm - 3:00pm

This certified Farmers' Market features both organic and conventionally grown produce, fresh from the fields and orchards of California's farmers. It is a great experience for members to see a farmers market at such a beautiful location (Santana row of cousre!) We will meet in front of Best Buy, facing Valley Fair. This is a fun, non-volunteering activity!

Hi everyone!

     This year has started off great for FFA, with Club Day and our first meeting!  Thanks to everyone who attended our first meeting.  Remember, everyone is welcome to join at any time during the year, so bring your friends too!  Like previous years, we meet Fridays at lunch in C109

     September's theme is Mexican food, so show off your cooking skills by bringing in something related to theme at our next meeting.  You earn two activity points every time you bring in food to share with everyone! The first activity of the year is the FFA picnic, which will be on Sunday, September 24.  Come to our meeting on Friday to sign up! 

     Come to our meeting next week to receive t-shirts, fliers, member requirement sheets, and delicious food! Here is more information regarding Food For All:

FFA Meetings

     Food For All meets every Friday at lunch in room C109.  Each month will focus on a different food theme, so be sure to check out what’s new each month at our meetings!

 

Member Fee

     To become an active member of FFA, please turn in a $10 fee, which includes a club t-shirt and covers all costs for activities, food, and parties. 

 

Activity Points

     We keep track of member participation through activity points, which can be easily acquired by taking part in FFA activities and events.  To ensure that all members stay active throughout the year, we encourage a goal of 10 activity points per semester.  Activities are ususally worth 3 activity points, and bringing in food can earn you 2 activity points each time!

Past Activities                                   

-          30-hour famine

-          Cooking meals for homeless families and working with them face-to-face

-          Busing tables for formal dinner events

-          Fundraising for UNICEF, Food For All, World Food Programme

o        Bake Sales, Trick-or-treat for UNICEF, 19 cents a day program, SF Hunger Walk

-          Chocolate and Donut Factory Tour

-          Volunteering at local festivals, including Aki Matsuri Festival and Italian Family Fiesta

-          Food sorting for Second Harvest and CityTeam

-          Cooking lessons and parties (Pizza and fondue)

 

New Activities Planned for this year

-          Behind-the-scenes of local food businesses, including bakeries or restaurants

-          Spreading hunger awareness to elementary school students

-          Picking fruit from local orchards for the hungry

-          Excursions to fun food festivals throughout the bay area

-          Tea party/high tea; exploring a popular British pastime

Last Meeting of the Year!

Thanks to all members for a great year for FFA! We really enjoyed having each one of you in the club. We had our end of year party last Monday, and everyone got to try delicious pancakes at the Original Pancake House. tongue

Our last meeting of the year will be on Friday, June 2nd at lunch in C109. There will be food and we will be announcing the officers for next year! We hope to see you there! The FFA officers hope that you all have an awesome summer and that you'll join again next year! laughing

Thank you to everyone who applied to be an FFA officer! Results will be announced next Friday during our last meeting of the year! Here's a summary of what's coming up:
